Legends Shop News
I will be making a trip up to Charlotte on Wednesday Oct.1st. The Legends Store WILL BE CLOSED
Chris Martin from Cochran is wanting us to bring Bandoleros there to do a practice test during our upcoming Legends events. I'll be in contact with many of you to drum up support.. That next dates that the Legends will be racing will be Oct. 11th and again on the 18th. Also on Nov 29th.
My apologies for what will probably be a rather long posting.
The intent on this posting is to clarify any misconceptions any of you may have about joining those of us whom are now racing our Legends cars on dirt. Also I am going to include prices of some items that you will need to prepare you car for racing on dirt.
Engines: Many of the older cars that have not raced for a while have the older 1200cc "built" engines in them. These engines are perfectly LEGAL to still be used as long as they are built to the specifications set forth in the INEX rulebook. I.E. 10.0:1 compression ratio, 165 # cranking compression. Built engine rules can be found beginning on page 59 of the 2014 INEX rule book.
The newer 1250cc engines must be sealed with the new thin square seals. (Purple and Gold) Early 1250's used various colored and shaped seals. Those engines need to be inspected and resealed. There is NO CHARGE for resealing an engine as long as it is a legal engine. There would only be a charge if the engine needs to have work done to it to bring in into compliance. You may either remove the engine from the car and have it sent, or I will take it, to US Legends for resealing, OR I will offer to take your car with it's engine still installed to US Legends to have it's engine inspected and resealed.
To convert your car to race on dirt you will need to soften up the rates of your springs, and purchase the dirt racing tires and a RR bead-lock wheel. The cost of a dirt tire is $ 110.00 an the Bassett bead-lock wheel is $ 145.99. There is not cutting or grooving allowed so the tires last much longer than asphalt tires. The # 71 house car has raced on the same 4 tires that it started on last fall. I believe they have 15-18 races on them now and the only tire that is showing any wear is the RR. The setup for racing on dirt is a bit different and we are finding that adding additional weight to the rear of the car is making it more stable in the corners.
I have had many long conversations with the officials at INEX and with the tech inspectors about growing this series. They know that this is all about getting cars back on the track racing and the racers having fun again. Rules will be softly enforced other than weight, tires and safety items. The car must weigh 1300 pounds, and the only tires allowed will be either the asphalt Federal tire, or the American Racer MS 57 tire with the USLCI stamp on it. The enforcement of these are for fairness, as well as for the safety of the competitors.
It is the goal of AMS Legends and US Legends Cars to provide a venue for racing Legends cars on dirt that is fair to all competitors by sanctioning tracks and providing a level playing field for all racers. We want you to come race with us in a friendly environment. One that is safe and family oriented. This is all about having FUN
Please contact me at the AMS Legends store, and I'll be more than happy to answer any other questions that you may have. 770-707-2977.
I will be offering the red 71 car for rental on the DIRT.. The cost will be $ 300.00 if you come to AMS, pick up the car, race it, and bring it back CLEAN. If you don't have a trailer and want to rent it, the cost will be $ 450.00 for me to take the car to the track and to clean it. You MUST also sign a damage waiver, and pay for any damage to the car while you have it. Check out the racing schedule at www.dirtlegendsofga.com.
